ONLINE CREATIVE ENGAGEMENT COHORT – COMING SOON

The Imagination Network has developed a range of workshops from our collaborative creative engagement projects with persons living with the experience of dementia.  Our techniques and exercises for creative engagement have evolved through our journey, and we are still learning.

We are working on a series of online offerings in 2021 to share the creative engagement process we explored in our Raising The Curtain workshops. We’re recruiting people living with dementia and people interested in learning more about this work to form a new cohort the spring to test drive this material. This new cohort will participate in a series of online video tutorials, group discussions, and feedback circles over several weeks. Our goal is to better understand how this work translates to other organizations, workplaces and home environments.

If you would like to know more about being involved in our new cohort, please contact us at contact@imaginationnetwork.org

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Our workshop facilitators come to each creative engagement grounded in our guiding principles where the voice of persons with the lived experience of dementia is the focal point.  These are some of the guiding principles that we have learnt from our creative collaborations:

  • Don’t underestimate what is possible
  • Yes (acceptance) And (offer)
  • Allow yourself to be surprised
  • Consider what someone with dementia can teach you – we are all learners
  • Silence is okay – leave space and time
  • Be willing to drop your plan and pivot at any time – follow the lead of the person living with dementia
  • Be honest about your own preconceived notions/stigmas of dementia – challenge those preconceptions
  • Be present in the moment
  • Listen beyond the words – so much is happening in the nuances of communication
  • Slow is good
  • This is an ongoing practice – no one is an expert
